At least you know the figures and if you have to buy one in the next few months, you'll have some idea when you go in there of what's what. Most of our car purchases are made in some sort of panic because someone has usually just wrecked one and it's always a nightmare and it's never at a good time financially.
I have to watch it, too, not because of debt or credit rating problems (though I want to keep mine as clean as possible). I'm curious how you budget- do you do it the old-fashioned way using a ledger or book? Or do you use software?
What kind of percentage breakdown does your budget look like- not money numbers but how do you break down your income to fit your spending needs?
I'm kind of curious, because money does feature on your LJ and I'm trying to be better at budgeting because I'm on a shoestring budget.
I have a very simple strategy. I pay all my bills, then whatever's left I use for food and gas and non-essentials, trying to be as frugal as I can, and each payday I put whatever's left from the previous payday into savings. Sometimes this is ten bucks, sometimes it's a hundred.
