I have to say, I feel almost alone in loving the darkness of season 6. Okay, it sometimes got a bit much (especially Buffy's whining about how she and Spike need to end it, only to keep continuing). But I thought her relationship with Spike there in season 6 was brilliantly resonant of the closet... feeling 'dirty' and 'shameful' for what you feel, for what you need, and hiding it from the people you're closest to, not being allowed to let anyone know, or be seen in public together. And the reaction when her friends found out, was very much like the "eww gross" reactoin a lot of straight people have when their gay friends come out. Incomprehnsion, moving to wary tolerance, but never really understanding.

And let's face it, she died in season 5, and was ripped out of heaven season 6. It had to be dark.

But I totally agree with you about season 7. It was pretty awful, no humor, and way too little of Xander and Willow. Things towards the end felt rushed and choppy, which annoyed because things in the middle just seemed to drag with all those slayerlets and stuff. Episodes like "Tabula Rasa" made it all too clear the spark that was missing from the show.

Frankly, Angel season 5 wasn't all that great either. But I loved the N-1 seasons of each show with a passion. Some of the best TV on TV.

Not alone. I actually did like season 6. I thought the darkness of it was... interesting, to say the least.
