Good morning, all. It finally feels like January here in Ohio, what with the cold and snow flurries and all. At least it isn't raining anymore.
I did manage to bestir myself yesterday despite my resolution to lie around. I ventured forth and bought some new underwear (ooh, exciting) and went to the grocery store for more hummus and melba toast (my new crack).
This morning I am greeted by the news, from a friend in the publishing business, that there are five new Ellen Raskin books set to be released soon (well, two new ones and three reissues), including...wait for it...a sequel to "The Westing Game."
Now, my first objection was that Ellen Raskin has been dead for some time. Is this another VC Andrews "manuscript from the vault" situation? Or was someone hired by the estate to produce a sequel, a la that new Peter Pan book that came out not too long ago? because if Ellen really wrote it, or partially wrote it, then I am all OVER that. I'm a bit more dubious if someone else wrote it, but since Westing Game is only one of the greatest books OMG EVER, I'll probably have to have a look at it.
You know, The Westing Game can probably take some of the credit for my fanfic activities. BFF April and I, as kids, both loved the book and used to make up stories of our own based on it. Those of you who've read it (which ought to be ALL of you) know that the end jumps about ten years into the future, and April and I used to fill in the gaps ourselves, inventing tales of how you got from point A to point B, especially in the realm of how the hell Turtle Wexler ended up marrying Theo Theodorakis.
I used to have a Westing Game LJ icon but alas, it's home on the hard drive and not loaded into the userpics at the moment. This one will have to suffice.
