Thank you for writing this.

I admit foremost that I don't know much about marriage. It's always been something that happens to other people.

The way you wrote about the legal aspect of marriage was enlightening, even though I don't live in the States.

Here in Canada, we have legalized the right to enter a legally-recognized binding homosexual marriage, but I think it's been left up to the individual churches to decide whether they want to fill the religious role. I find it heartening when one does.
However, this new change has been challenged and there will be a free vote in Parliament. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I agree. In GA, the issue of gay marriage was left up to a public vote. Of course, being the bible belt, it was voted against. However, I don't feel that it should have been open to a vote. Laws shouldn't be made based on public opinion, they should be based on people's rights. A gay couple being married does not infringe on the rights of anyone else, therefore there is no reason for it to be illegal. Just because people don't like something doesn't give them the right to make it illegal....Grrrrrr.....

Thank you so much for putting this argument so intelligently. It's people like you that give me faith in humanity :)

I actually clapped at the tv last night when that was on the local news. I'm a mere 15 minutes from NJ, so it feels like a close-to-home victory. I'm thinking Santorum is going to want to move to Erie to be as far away from this godlessness as possible.

Maybe if we all act gay enough Santorum will move far enough away to be tolerated. Like, say, THE MOON.
