I've decided I'm not going to watch live TV anymore. Purely as a time-saver.
Recently I've become impatient with the number of shows I watch. I'll probably quit watching SVU. I tried to stop watching Nip/Tuck, but...Dinklage! I'm not going to start in with Top Chef once Runway is over (I'm not, do you hear me? NOT!). And...brace yourself...I may drop "Lost." And "CSI." We'll see how that works out.
But I'm not going to watch any more TV shows on the weeknights. At least not when they're airing. Think about it...if you have, say, six shows you watch and you DVR them all, and watch them without commercials...you just saved 1.5 hours! And if it gets to the weekend and I find that I don't much care if I see this week's SVU, then...off the DVR it goes into the ether.
I'd rather be writing. I have lots to do. I have the "Third" rewrite to worry about (I am actually keeping to my pledge of one page per day), plus Two Crows Joy, and a new one I'm starting. Someday I'd like to finish HWTF. And if I find that I need a break, well...I'll watch one of the shows on the DVR, but it'll only take 42 minutes instead of an hour. Every little bit helps. Plus I'd like to read a book every once in awhile. Do some cooking. Lately I've been collapsing into bed at 1:30 a.m. after having been writing for four hours in a row.
Speaking of Nip/Tuck...
Well, I certainly didn't expect Psycho Monica to do a full-on "Final Destination" bus-plant. That's nice and convenient for Sean, isn't it? And can we please have a female character who's NOT psycho? Now Dr. Brooke Shields, too? What is it about McNamara/Troy ass that drives women around the bend? At least Michelle's sane. Kind of. And there is not nearly enough Dinklage.
And Runway...
I admit it, over the past month or so, I've come around to rather liking Jeffrey. I think his designs are cool, his collection is far and away the best, and despite occasions of assholishness I think he's a cool guy. If he did sew that collection himself (and I'm inclined to believe him) then this really sucks for him. If he DID have help, then he deserves what he gets. And Michael? I've figured out what his problem is. There's a chasm between the kind of designer he thinks he is and the kind of designer he actually is. He thinks he's good at all this body-formed slinky stuff, but he isn't. He's much better at sportier, classier stuff, but he WANTS to be good at the flashier, slinkier stuff because he thinks it's hot.
