Facts from Lord Peter

So midnightcircle was over last night. I cooked, we watched Doctor Who. She and TLR are now both totally caught up, except for this past Saturday's episode which I don't yet have on DVD and which is also part one of two, so we'll no doubt wait until I have both parts.
A bit ago, I asked for ideas on mystery series I ought to read. I got lots of good ideas, but decided to go with my original idea, Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey books. I picked up the first three (except there was one they didn't have) and started on them posthaste. I'm enjoying the first one very much; I'm about two-thirds finished. God forbid I actually finish a book these days. I'm having this thing where I can't seem to finish anything. I have, no kidding, six or seven books on my nightstand which literally have mere pages to go until they're finished. I don't get me sometimes.
But whoever said books aren't educational? (No one, I know) I think the Wimsey books have taught me where the word "whatchamacallit" (if that's even a word) comes from. At one point Lord Peter's mother, the Dowager Duchess, is listening to testimony at an inquest and she uses the phrase "what-you-may-call-it" to stand in for something she doesn't know the proper term for. A light bulb went on. A-ha! That's where that comes from! Or did everybody know this, and I'm just a bit slow on the uptake?
