Waiting for Runway

May 24, 2006 16:08

I'm having a coffee and glancing over the TWOP recaps of Project Runway season 1. I'm suddenly struck by the similarities between the seasons.

Consider (Season 1/Season 2):
Jay/Chloe is a deserving, talented designer who we cheer for, are glad to see at Fashion Week, and seems doomed to second place only to pull out a surprise win at the last minute.
Kara Saun/Daniel V. is the season-long golden child with a zillion wins under their belt who seem unbeatable only to come up second.
Wendy/Santino is the designer we love to hate who somehow, unjustly, make it to the final three but finish third.
Austin/Nick is the talented, beloved-by-all designer who is shockingly eliminated before their time.
Daniel F/Daniel F is unbelievably annoying.
Alexandra/Emmett is quiet, un-dramatic, apparently adequately talented, contributes little to the on-screen drama and is eliminated about halfway through.
Nora/Diana is the recent fashion school graduate, clearly talented but not savvy, and is eliminated way too early.
Starr/Raymundo is an outlandishly over-the-top designer who spouts non sequiturs, doesn't seem to get it, and gets the axe early.
I can't believe Robert/Kara made it as far as they did.
Kevin/Marla is the elder statesman/woman of the group, has abilities but seems a bit out of their league.
There is no season 1 analog of Andrae. There is no analog of Andrae anywhere in the world, because Andrae is one in six billion.
