Last night, I made my first trip to...wait for it...Home Depot. Remember when I talked about
the vagaries of home improvement? I've decided that the best way to help make sure that I actually DO something is to remove as many pre-project obstacles as possible. I have a few months to prepare. I've already started acquiring some new wall art to replace what TLR is taking with her...although I found out today that she bought me my own version of our giant HP subway poster. *sniff sniff* WAH! I love my roommate. I wish she wasn't leaving me. But she is, ergo...paint chip therapy.
I picked out some colors. Pictures to come. And I grabbed some random stuff that I know I'll need. Couple of paint rollers, spackle, a studfinder, painter's tape, the special primer I need, some plastic dropcloths. If I gradually add stuff to my pile it won't be such a huge expense all at once and it'll all be there whenever I'm ready to start.
All this stuff I am tossing into a box in the basement until such time as it is called into action. I think TLR was surprised to learn that she is totally helping me with all this. But then, she didn't know that I fully intend to help HER with her own brand-new Nerd Lair, too. I was relieved to find outthat she and the Lovely Roommate-in-Law (his new name...whaddya think?) are hiring a contractor to put up drywall, because that is not really a job for DIYers, with the drilling and the taping and the mudding and the sanding...yikes.
I was talking to my dad last night and I informed him that I will be purchasing a power drill in the near future. He got really, really excited and started tossing around words like "12-volt" and "variable speed." Ah, dads and power tools. A match made in heaven.
I just had lunch with TLR and
mackeral1964 and was alarmed to realize, when I got back to the office, that I somehow totally stiffed our waiter. I NEVER do that. I used to work for tips, therefore I'm a very generous tipper. I suppose it had something to do with the fact that I paid in cash whereas I usually pay with a card and add the tip on. I can't just let that lie so I called the restaurant to find out his name so I could drop by and leave him a tip. Turns out he answered the phone. Being a polite waiter type he protested that it wasn't necessary, but it is to me so I'll drop by on my way home from work.
