Interesting, it's the one I've enjoyed the most so far. I've read that one, "Plain Truth", "Salem Falls" and "Second Glance" by her... the latter being my least favourite I think.
I completely agree with you regarding "The Time-Traveller's Wife". It's good to be sure, but not the 'wow'-experience I'd expected.
I adored Year of Wonders. It did go super-fast, but it's so great! I'm a bit of a history geek, too, so I liked that element of it.
Have you read any Isabel Allende? I read her take on Zorro a couple of months ago and it was wonderful. Paula had me bawling the entire way through, and Daughter of Fortune is engrossing. The best part is that the books are all so DIFFERENT - she's a very versatile writer.
If you're reading Wicked, you should also read Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister (which is actually the only Gregory Maguire that I've read, but it was brilliant).
Well, who can really say what causes one person to LOVE LOVE a book and another to be less enthusiastic? I found it very interesting and well-written, but it didn't really grab me on an emotional level.
I was intermittently annoyed by the Author Hobby Syndrome being displayed, in which various characters are experts in and often spout off about some subject with which the author is obsessed. I just started skipping the numerous riffs on punk music.
I finished The Historian a few weeks ago and I really really disliked it. The first half was good and the second half was nothing like we'd come to expect from the first half. What did you like about the second half?

That was actually probably my least favorite of her books, ironic I know since it's the one that really put her on the map.
