Today, apparently, is Music Appreciation Day.
Okay, everybody. True Confessions time.
We all have them. Artists we dislike intensely. Artists whose discs we wouldn't be caught dead buying. Artists we SPIT ON, ptooey!
And yet...sometimes...these hated artists have one song, ONE SONG, that we like. We guiltily listen to it. We hide the mp3 in an untitled folder. We gloat over that single song after midnight, alone under the covers. We curse the injustice of the universe that this group or singer that we loathe so much have managed to produce just this one song that we adore.
So tell me. Confess that song you love by that artist you hate.
I'll start.
1. I am not a fan of Billy Idol. I've never liked him. Too 1980's cheesetastic. Even "Mony Mony" bugs me. And yet...one of my all-time favorite songs, for my entire life, has been "Eyes Without a Face." I don't know why I love it, but I do. The lyrics are nonsensical, it's hard rock and sappy at the same time and I just adore it. I never get tired of it.
2. I don't think I'm alone in my distaste for Celine Dion. Sure, she has a nice voice...if you can hear it through all the VIOLINS and the cheese sauce running in the streets. And yet, I really really like her cover of Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night." It's dancey and poppy and fun and I love it.
