Cafeteria mysteries and Disney

Yay! They have my favorite deli salad today! It's this creamy orzo pasta salad with shrimp and dill. Yum.

Today for lunch I had a sandwich. They called it a "cool turkey reuben." It was delicious. And yet, I am befuddled as to how this sandwich was in any way, shape or form a reuben of any variety. It contained neither corned beef nor sauerkraut nor Swiss cheese nor reuben dressing. It WAS on rye bread, but does that alone merit the "reuben" moniker? It was turkey lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and some kind of thousand-island like dressing. It was rather drippy, actually. Happily I managed to avoid getting any on my boobs.

Raise your hand if you can't wait to watch Disney fall flat on their faces when they attempt to do Toy Story 3 without Pixar. *raises hand*

God, I have such a beef with Disney this last decade or so. They've become so creatively bankrupt and so bereft of originality or commitment to quality that they've resorted to repackaging and strip-mining the genius of their past accomplishments to squeeze a few more bucks out of them. Mindless, poorly made sequels, shameless reissues, repackaged Disney Princesses crap...it never ends. This was the studio that gave us The Lion King, Tarzan, Hunchback and so many others. They reinvented feature animation so many times that you could hardly separate the two. Now they're barely coming in third after Pixar and Dreamworks.

What happened, Disney? When did you lose your imagination? When did you stop caring about inspiring children, about appealing equally to their parents? When did the almighty dollar become more important than creating something that would be remembered fifty years later and watched faithfully by generation after generation? When did the magic leave the Magic Kingdom?

It makes me want to cry sometimes.
