On the Tube

My laptop is at the doctor's office today. Poor boo. Two of the keys broke off. What does it say about me as a writer that the broken keys were the backspace key and the caps lock key?

I had a rather amazing phone call this morning. Quite some time ago, I was on my way to a gathering at a friend's house and decided to stop off at a local Cheryl & Company and pick up some cookies to bring. At the time they had this promotion where if you bought a dozen, you could pre-buy two dozen more for what amounted to half off, but the kicker was that you could use it at any time. I figured I'd have occasion to bring cookies somewhere else before too long, so I did it. And then promptly forgot about it.

Today the manager of that store called me and said, hey, you paid for these FOUR YEARS AGO, you wanna pick them up? I couldn't believe it. Color me impressed that Cheryl & Co keeps track of the customer orders so accurately that they were following up on an order I bought in 2007. Now, I have no particular use for two dozen cookies myself, but happily I have a party to go to tomorrow night, so I'm sure they'll be welcomed there.

So! What's on the boob tube lately?

A few weeks ago I mainlined all of "Downton Abbey" which is brilliant and fantastic. Now I download the new episodes as soon as the feeds pop up (series 2 is airing now in the UK) and I watch it on my computer on IM chat with my friend Jessica in Chicago. God, we're dorks.

Lately I've also been watching this crazy ridonkulous but kind of awesome anime series called "Tiger & Bunny" FOR WHICH I ENTIRELY BLAME flowrs4ophelia. It just finished its first season. It's about corporate-sponsored superheroes in some neo-futuristic-1970s version of Manhattan and the titular characters are a total doofus of an aging veteran hero who dresses like a Prohibition mobster who gets partnered up with the hotshot new hero who has Farrah hair and family issues and is kind of a douchecanoe. Seriously.

I cannot ever remember caring less about the Runway finale. Last night. Oh, man, last night. I was over at Dayna's watching it with her boyfriend and their housemate and at the end when they said Kimberley was in, we were all like...YAY RUNWAY YOU GET A TINY SMIDGEN OF CREDIBILITY BACK. And then it all went away. FAR FAR AWAY. I can't wait for the All-Stars season. Maybe we'll see some decent designing again. TEAM MONDO FTW.

In the meantime I am SO GLAD that Criminal Minds is GOOD again, I'm still pissed at The Mentalist for squandering the totally ballsy and awesome season finale they did last year, and Castle is becoming boring to me. I'm not watching any of the new shows. Trying to keep my DVR list trim and tidy with no less than a half-dozen or so shows. Meanwhile I am working through all the Ken Burns documentaries on Netflix for background noise at work. Someone just told me that all 100+ episodes of "How It's Made" are on Netflix streaming, too. THAT'LL WORK.

tv: criminal minds, tv: british, tv: project runway, tv: cartoons, toys: computer
