Weekends and patios and ziplining

This past Sunday, I caved and hired a guy to come clean/organize my patio. I usually do this myself (one year Eric did it) but with all the rain this year it got out of control quickly, with the weeds and last year's planting detritus, and the over-the-winter crap that falls in there, and the grill needed a good scrub. I just haven't had time and frankly, I've used up just about all my "dealing with stuff" reserves for awhile. He did a great job and didn't charge much and it was well worth it. Last night I sat out there with the laptop and glass of awesome Australian shiraz and burned some Nag Champa and it was pretty great. Although the patio is now clean, it's kind of grim. I need to get some lanterns or candles and definitely some flowers and/or plants. Ooh, I should put up Christmas lights! Yeeaaaaah. My hired guy put down weed barrier in my tiny planting bed and filled it in with pretty rose granite so I won't have to worry about that because I am DONE with attempting gardening. Gardening is one of those things that I WANT to like doing and be good at but I just don't like it and I'm just not good at it. I can accept this limitation in life. Potted flowers will do me fine.

Last Saturday I had my second-ever ziplining outing with the Babes. It was super fun! We had five Babes go along, I was the only one in the group who'd ever done it before. It was a gorgeous day, we had a fun group, perfect.

Later that night I went to see "X-Men: First Class" with Amanda and John. It was very good, even if bits were canon-noncompliant (not that it's possible to be otherwise with X-Men) and of course contradicted the other X films in parts. A friend commented to me that he felt like it was similar in tone and theme to the Star Trek reboot, and I can see that. It had the same back-to-basics feeling, and even drew its cast from the same generation of young, intelligent actors. James McAvoy is always awesome. A lot of my online friends are really on the Fassbender bandwagon and he's good, but he doesn't do much for me, honestly. I was not impressed by Jennifer Lawrence, which makes me nervous about Hunger Games, but Nicholas Hoult was awesome.

So far no plans for the holiday weekend except possibly a hike on Saturday, if anybody signs up. Tonight is the final night for the LotR extended screenings, and it's the big slog...four and a half hours of Return of the King. Tomorrow I'm getting together with a brand-new book club! I know it's hard to believe but I've never been in a book club before.
