A couple of weekends ago we went to Tansley car boot where I picked up a couple of drum machines for £15, without power supplies or manuals: An Alesis SR-16 and a Zoom RhythmTrak RT-123. A fair price, I thought, for running the risk that they might both be knackered. I actually made an offer at £15 for both, instead of £10 and £6 respectively ( Read more... )

I started "circuit-bending" the SR-16 last night, and tried to attack the NAND gate. (Put "circuit bent SR-16" into YouTube to see what it's all about!) Unfortunately I accidentally crossed one of the NAND outputs with ground and shorted it. So the SR-16 is currently dead. But not to worry - a new NAND gate will cost me 35p from JPG Electronics just off Chatsworth Road, and a few minutes to solder it in!
