Diamonds: She'll pretty much have to.

My sweetheart and I are getting engaged soon, and we'd like to exchange rings. Regardless of whether we end up buying online or in a store, we want to try rings on first to see what suits each of us.

We'd like a place that:

I know several people who have been very happy with Studio Jewelers.

If you want something simple, clean and gem-y (or even diamond-y, but especially gem-y), you might try Burnie's Rock Shop (& Design Annex). They're pretty fabulous.

Agreed. I know several couples who have gotten engagement/wedding rings here who have been very happy (with the rings, and with each other!).

i'm loath to recommend my favourite shop (i.e., you just want to waste their time trying on rings, and then go "save" a few dollars by ordering online from asia), but all that said...

Voyager's in Cambridge is absolutely the best place for what we'll call "non traditional" rings and the like.

they even have a website

I actually would prefer to buy in-person from a local business--I just don't know enough about the pros & cons yet to say for sure. Thanks for the recommendation, and I promise I'll try not to waste their time :-)

I have no suggestions but wow that advertisement you linked made me throw up in my mouth a little. I'm watching this post because I love that modern-design look! (And don't want diamonds)

It's a bit of a haul out to Brookfield, but I'm partial to Power's Goldsmith myself.

They have a number of unique settings in stock, will offer multiple suggestions if you ask about alternate stone options, and can customize just about anything. They're family owned; and they don't really advertise...new customers generally hear about them by word-of-mouth, which is always a good sign. :-)
