Ex-Tropical Cyclone Laurence deserves some kudos. It started in Western Australia near Broome where it crossed the coast. It then became a rain depression and then went back out to sea.
That is usually the end of it.
However, it re-intensified and re-crossed the WA coast as a Cat 5 Cyclone.
Usually, they do peter out after a few days, but TC Laurence then decided to take the outback tour of Australia.
A few days later, it was still a Cyclone and was nearing the South Australian border. Shortly it then petered into a rain depression. Again - that should have been the end of it.
But no - it's continued on as a big rain depression and has now reached the east coast of Australia - and is causing heavy rain and flooding in South East Qld and NOrth East NSW.
You have to admit - that is one determined weather pattern! I can't help but sneakily hope that it crosses the coast and re-intensifies into a Cyclone. Yeah - the destruction will be horrible, but somehow I can't help feel it deserves to go out in a blaze of cyclonic glory, rather than as a rain depression.
