I ran by our local post office this afternoon, and at the entrance I used I saw a sign stuck on post office property with the words, "Fire Obama, not Teachers and Firefighters" accompanied by a picture of Obama with a Hitler mustache. As I turned the corner, I saw two hicks with even more signs decrying Obama as a fascist and handing out pamphlets at the entrance to the building.
For one thing, I'm not sure about the legality of setting up shop on the immediate grounds of a federal building. I was under the impression that such a protest required a permit, and people who are idiotic enough to slap a Hitler mustache on the president probably don't know about permits.
Second, this made me think that I wish I was more brave. As I walked in to the building, what was running through my head was this little diatribe:
Regardless of political leanings, depicting anyone with a Hitler mustache is a stupid thing to do. As a Jew, and a high school educated adult, I'm fairly certain Obama is nothing like Hitler, and drawing mustaches on individuals we dislike is sooo junior high. I also don't think you know what a fascist or a dictator is. Mussolini was a fascist...Pol Pot, Kim Jung Il, Hitler...those are military dictators. Obama is just a legally elected president with whose policies you disagree. So in addition to belying your lack if historical sensitivity and intelligence, you've also demonstrated your basic lack of creativity.
But I didn't say that because I'm a wimp. Instead I went home and
See? No creativity whatsoever.
