Inspired by Twitter exchanges with
milkchokolate and
piratenami, I have decided to implement my own meme. Let us call it the MUSIC SHARING MEME.
Pick 10 songs you like (10 favorite of the moment, of the week, of all time, doesn't matter) and share them with your Friends List. Bonus points for links where you can find the songs online, and a short blurb to explain why you like it.
New musical discoveries for everyone!
In no particular order! If they are fairly mainstream artists, I picked songs that are less well known. :)
1. Music is My Radar, Blur
I know a lot of North Americans only know Blur for Song 2 and Boys & Girls, but they have such a varied back catalogue and remain one of my favorite bands of all time. This song is on this list because it makes me want to dance, and the video is just brilliant. Almost put The Universal here though, for the video alone.

2. The Parting of the Sensory, Modest Mouse
There have been months on end when Modest Mouse were practically the only band I listened to. This song is easily one of my favorites, for the build up and the amazingly brilliant ending.

3. Lover, You Should've Come Over, Jeff Buckley
He's famous for his take on Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, but this is my favorite song of his. Picked the live version just because I enjoy looking at him, but the album version is absolutely gorgeous. I have that show on tape somewhere and used to watch it at least weekly. I should probably try to get it on DVD.

4. Wickerman, Pulp
Oh man, this band. Jarvis Cocker is one of those men that manage to look both ridiculous and amazingly sexy at the same time. He exhudes charisma and style, of one the greatest frontmen of all time IMO. Also one of the greatest lyricists of all time, most of his songs are basically him just telling a story. This one is especially long and wordy (a lot more so than usual, Pulp songs in general are quite catchy), half spoken word and half song, but I love it.

5. IfWhiteAmericaToldTheTruthForOneDayItsWorldWouldFallApart, Manic Street Preachers
I had to have a Manics song on here, but it's nearly impossible to chose one. Almost picked Ready for Drowning, but ended up with this one, which is worlds apart from that one. XD The Holy Bible is probably the least friendly of their albums (if there is such a thing as a friendly Manics album, lol), but even so, this is the song that first made me think, 'Wow, these guys are brilliant'. Now there are songs off The Holy Bible that I think are better lyrically, but this one hold a special place in my heart.

6. Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
I LOVE this song, and not just because Jarvis Cocker can be seen dancing in the video. XD It figures that he and Nick Cave would be friends. The part that builds up with 'raise your hands up to the sky' is just... <3. I think I listened to this for one week straight after I first heard it.

7. Exit Music (For a Film), Radiohead
Linked this one today already, but this may be my favorite Radiohead in the history of ALL TIME. It was originally written for Romeo + Juliet but ended up on OK Computer, and Talk Show Host ended up on the soundtrack instead. Both are brilliant songs, but there is something about the build up in this song that SLAYS me.

8. Ask, The Smiths
Ok, I only really started listening to these guys like a week ago (I know I'm late), but I am OBSESSED with this song. The lyrics are lovely, and I love singing along to it in my car.

9. Say Hello to the Angels, Interpol
Off their first album, but still my favorite song by them. I dunno, I love the chorus and the bass line. That is all.

10. Venus & Serena, Super Furry Animals
Ack, last one! Almost chose a song by Muse, but it seems like 75% of you guys know all about them already, so went for my 2nd favorite Welsh band instead. :D These guys can be so out there, I adore them. Plus they are one of the first bands I ever saw live and they were SO NICE to us. This is my favorite song off Phantom Power. It seems like it is about the two famous tennis playing sisters, but according to Gruff Rhys, singer and songwriter, "It's about a child, who can't communicate with his elders, growing up with two pet tortoises called Venus and Serena. But he feels that the reptiles understand. I suppose its similar to 'Liberty Belle' in that sense, in that in this day and age the turtle seems to take on an image of wisdom compared to the people elected to governors. It uses tennis vocabulary to make the point. Venus and Serena have beautiful names and they seem to have exemplary powers. I think its about making pictures in people's minds." lolwhat.
