The Reason I Go On - A Haru/Rin FST
Made for the "Anything Goes" theme at fst. I'm rather proud of this one, although I was a little surprised by the final playlist. And because I was bored, you even get bonus album art! Although I admit it's not as good as I wish it was...
Anyways, Fruits Basket. A quick overview: a family has a curse where 13 of them are possessed by the spirits of the zodiac. Two of them, Rin and Haru, have a long, complicated relationship. And that's what this FST is about.
Ever since Haru first showed up in the Fruits Basket manga, he's been my favorite character, and I've been rooting him and Rin on since SHE first showed up. My favorite scene in the manga, even after finishing, is in volume 8, when Haru first talks about her. So naturally, I thought that since I had free rein and absolutely no real requirements on this one I could justify talking about my favorite characters and favorite ship in one of my favorite series. ^_^
SPOILER WARNING! Don't read if you aren't past Chapter 107, or better yet, if you haven't finished the series!
1. Castle on a Cloud - Les Misérables
i know a place where no one’s lost
i know a place where no one cries
crying at all is not allowed
not in my castle on a cloud
Rin dreams of a place where she is safe.
2. Cold Water - Damien Rice
cold, cold water surrounds me now
and all i've got is your hand
lord, can you hear me now?
One day, Haru rescues her. It’s not going to be the last time.
3. May It Be - Enya
may it be an evening star
shines down upon you
To protect Haru from Akito, Rin allows herself to be thrown out a window.
4. Chasing the Dragon - Epica
nothing will be forever gone
memories will stay and find their way
Rin breaks up with Haru and sets off to break the curse on her own.
5. Broken Boy Soldier - The Raconteurs
i'm going back to school today
but i'm dropping myself off
i'm throwing the childhood scenes away
i'm through ripping myself off
Meanwhile, Haru destroys a classroom in his rage after Rin leaves him.
6. One Step Closer - U2
one step closer to knowing
Rin does everything she can to try to break the curse, from offering her body to Shigure to nearly getting killed for Ren.
7. Warning Sign - Coldplay
when the truth is,
i miss you.
yeah the truth is,
that I miss you so.
When Rin leaves Shigure’s house, she meets Haru, who makes his feelings clear.
8. Fade - Theatre of Tragedy
and i fade like the dew before the sun
silence of our ceased memories
in our dreams, everything is just the same
withering motions
Meanwhile, as Rin searches, her health gets worse. And then, she disappears, and no one will tell Haru where she is or why she is gone.
9. Memories - Within Temptation
all of my memories keep you near.
in silent moments,
imagine you'd be here.
all of my memories keep you near.
in silent whispers, silent tears.
Rin waits, locked in the cat’s room.
10. Full of Grace - Sarah McLachlan
if all of the strength and all of the courage
come and lift me from this place
i know i could love you much better than this
Rin waits, sinking lower into her dreams and her bad health. When Kureno finds and releases her, she collapses on the sidewalk, where Haru finds her.
11. The Reason I Go On - Celine Dion
catch me cause I'm falling,
i'm so lost, inside your love.
can't you hear me calling
to your heart,
cause you’re the one reason I go on.
Haru rescues Rin again, and carries her to safety. After the resolution of the whole Akito thing, we're led to believe that they live happily ever after.
