Backstory: Grew up in California. Son of a widowed man with some considerable influence in a certain business area of dubious legality, and was never really good enough for him. Joined the army at 18 to spite his father, only to end up in an altercation two years later with a guy (possibly over a girl?) that ended up with the other guy dead. Grimm helped him out, and the rest is history.
Personality: He would have done well as a soldier if it hadn't been for aforementioned altercation. He's very serious and firmly believes in following the hierarchy. However, he has a secret layer of anger that can explode out if pushed too far. You don't want to get on that side of him, especially if it's provoked over his teammates. It's only going to end poorly for you.
Reason for joining?: Accidentally-on-purpose killed someone. Grimm helped him escape charges, and he went to work for him to repay his debt.
