Day Ten: Favourite classic book
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
The first time I read Gaskell's 'Manchester' novel, I wanted to throw the book across the room. Margaret Hale is a prim little miss who 'dislikes shoppy people' and looks down her nose at everyone from her cousin to the entire population of the north of England. But I persevered, and was rewarded with a strong, forthright heroine and John Thornton, a brooding hero and bluntly spoken northern bloke in one.
I'm over the adaptation with Richard Armitage, but the book remains one of my favourites.
