Character History:
Outside Source:
KH Wiki Riku's Replica was created in the basement laboratories of the nobody scientist Vexen, to act as a makeshift stand-in pawn for the match of wits and power being played among the Organization members in Castle Oblivion's halls.
Told of his Real Thing's existence upon his awakening, the curious newly-made challenger went immediately to find his original data and test Riku's skills, confident that his embrace of the darkness would allow him to "wipe to floor" with his opponent. When Riku proved a fierce and equal match, the Replica returned to the labs to cockily declare him "not so tough" and probably an easy fight after he'd gotten in a little more practice.
Pleased with the outcome of his successful Riku-duplicate, Vexen brought his new project to the attentions of his colleagues on the castle's lower floors. When the schemer Zexion scorned him for bringing in a copy and not the original, the replica was then taken to the upstairs upstarts. Larxene forced Namine to reconstruct his memories with lies of a Destiny Islands childhood and phantom promises.
With his creator on the traitor's chopping block and his already tenuous sense of self altered into a loyal admiring friend of the captive artist, he set out toward the lower floors to take on whatever had been troubling Namine.
He found Sora, and feeling abandoned by his old friend and worthier of Namine's heart, accused him of forgetting the most important people. He fought the keybearer in a series of duels to try and jog his memories. Upon discovering they both carried the same good luck charm, and had a duplicate memory of giving a special promise to Namine, the replica angrily suspected that Sora's memories were a fake and attempted one last time to destroy him, but this time Namine interfered, shattering his heart and breaking her bond on his memories.
He awoke sometime later, confused and horrified with the sudden knowledge that his own existence was the fabrication, not knowing why or for what purpose he was created. However, he forgave Namine for her part in the deception, and decided to hold onto their false oath, joining in to defend her while Sora finished off the Lord of Oblivion.
He left them shortly after the hero's fight, refusing a part in a story that wasn't really his, and leaving Namine in Sora's care. Axel, still with schemes in play, found him wandering the castle hallways distraught and empty, and goaded him into taking the fading and weakened Zexion's powers for his own and assuming the darkness of another to make him 'more real'.
When he found this new power unsatisfying for making an actual identity for himself, the replica realized that he needed to challenge the real Riku, once and for all, in an all or nothing fight for the right of true existence. He found him within the memory-halls of Twilight Town, and fought wildly desperate and half-mad with his newfound power. Riku's heart was the more convicted of the two, and so his replica lost, slipping away into darkness on the vague comfort that his heart would go to rest in the same place his Real Thing's someday .This too, as scoffed bitterly in his last breath, was hardly original.
Point in Canon: Moments before death
Character Personality:
The Replica was created from Riku's "fiery reaction" to an encounter with Vexen. Therefore, the forefront elements of Riku's personality imprinted on him are dynamic and determined, stubborn and hotheaded, quick to anger, aloof and wary.
He embraces the darkness and claims it as his own power, scoffing at those who would warn him of it's dangers, and while he may put up a confident and collected front, he lacks the self-control to temper his frustrations, and lashes out at whatever challenges his tenuous sense of ego.
His solution to uncertainty has always been an instinctive fight or flight. He still knows of his crayon-made memories, even though they are splintered into confusing pieces, and they still hold prominent sway over his heart. He does possess true emotion, and is able to make his own choices, although he has been manipulated, is aware that he has been used in the past for others' gain, and is resolved to keep that from happening. He is, however, still a relatively new creation and highly impressionable. Angry desperation will drive him to violence, and outright murder is not beyond him.
However, to balance out all this combative energy, Namine's influence on his heart gave him a fresh and sentimental view of his 'childhood memories' on Destiny Islands. Since those were the only limited dosage of heart's memories he ever held, their value is doubly cherished. His emotional maturity, therefore, is quite less developed than Riku's...he clings to childhood dreams and promises, quietly believes in the sort of things his more jaded original may have cast away by now. Despite his darkness, Namine's memories have cast a shade of lighter hope on his personality. He is idealistic and protective of the things he cares about, namely her. But he is also deeply possessive and overprotective.
He harbors a deep affection and devotion to Namine, a reluctant acceptance of Sora and even a begrudging respect for Riku who bested him, although that could turn into a rivalry once again if confronted with either of them again. Towards members of the Organization he wouldn't recognize, he's uncertain and suspicious...to those involved directly with Namine's keeping? Nothing short of loathing.
In this second chance of a life, the Replica has arrived with just as fragile a sense of self, an aggressive temperament, hostile mistrust and an outwardly boastful demeanor to compensate. He's desperate for an identity; to prove himself real, and to prove himself worthy.
Character Plans:
Definitely the city will be overwhelming to take in, its the first real world he'd had to explore. He needs to come into an identity of his own, and is likely to become a piece of interest to SERO if they come to understand what he is. If he should develop loyalty to either corporation, he'll probably become competitive about it.
,
Unless taken under wing and directed into a stable lifestyle, he's likely to end up in the slums, putting himself in a lot of high-risk situations, and dealing a lot with surviving the darkness. I'm cool with playing him in darkness-monster state a couple of times as a development arc, to get him adjusted to the notion of personal limits.
He has a slight dark white knight streak, and he's likely to latch himself to Namine, and take careful watch of any other girls he may imprint the same ideas upon, people who need protecting.
Appearance/PB:
It looks like a Riku. BUT IT IS NOT.
