After the news broke last week that season 15 will be the last season, I've taken some time away from fandom to let myself breathe; I've commented on posts here and there, but I haven't seen the latest episode, and I haven't done my episode drabble. I felt like I needed some space to let the news sink in, but a week later and I still feel kind of

*hugs* I feel like I'm still a little in shock about it, too. I was at work when I first got the news so I wasn't able to immediately cry it out like I wanted to, lol. So I held it in and sure enough, as I'd feared I did a little too well and wasn't able to get it out once I got home.

I did feel very sad that night and Saturday morning, and also kind of numb. Saturday evening I threw myself into writing fanfic, and that helped, as I'd hoped. It kind of reminded me on a deeper level how the show and characters will always be there for me to enjoy and engage with, even though there won't be new episodes after next season. I'm even more mad at myself than I was before that it took me so long to become really active in the fandom, though.

I've definitely still felt sad about it on and off this week, and I think it's going to be a process for us all. It might not fully sink in for a lot of us until it's really over.

But I agree that the friends & family in this fandom aren't going anywhere. And while there is inevitably some decline in a fandom after a canon ends, this one is so close-knit and longstanding that I think (and certainly hope) that there may be less decline than usual, and/or slower. But in any case, there will always be longtime fans around and new people discovering the show and joining up.

*hugs back* I think you're right maybe I just need to sink myself back into fandom and writing because these characters will always be there for us to engage and enjoy; whether there are new episodes or not.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me; it certainly makes me feel better to know that I'm not alone in this, and that we have each other. Just because the show is ending, it doesn't mean that fandom is ♥
