Canon Resource Link: Movie Wiki, Full movie on YouTube
Character Background: [Movie canon differs from book canon~ This is taken straight from Jack's conversation to Dorothy about how he came to be alive]

Jack was built my Ozma, the child Queen of Oz who had been kept prisoner by Princess Mombi since the time of the Wizard. Ozma built Jack to scare Princess Mombi, fastening sticks with twine and cutting a jack-o-lantern for the head, and set him up where she knew Mombi would see him. Mombi was indeed frightened by Jack but was then furious at having been made a fool of. Given this strange opportunity, however, she decided to try a Power of Life she'd bought from a magician which worked and brought Jack to life.

As punishment for her deed, Mombi enchanted Ozma into the mirrors of her palace and threw Jack into the attic to await being made into a pie. However, she had been wearing head 22 at the time and had not worn that head since, forgetting about Jack's existence entirely.

Jack was discovered by Dorothy when the girl had been thrown into the attic as well to await maturity so her head could be harvested and added to Mombi's collection. Dorothy helped put Jack back together and in listening to the story of his life, imagined an idea for escape. She took Mombi's Powder of Life from cabinet 31 which also contained Mombi's original head and with it she brought to life a Gump's head with the body of two sofa's and wings of palm branches to fly herself, Jack, The Royal Army of Oz (Tick-Tock) and the talking chicken Bellina to the Gnome King's Mountain across the Deadily Desert.

Within the Gnome King's Mountain they found the Scarecrow who was magicked away instantly, turned into an ornament in the Gnome King's gallery. The Gnome King gave them a chance to rescue the Scarecrow if they were to play a game. The rules were laid out but the risks were not: each person in the party was given three tries to guess which ornament was the Scarecrow by placing their hands over the ornament and calling out "Oz!"; a right answer would return the Scarecrow, a wrong answer three times would turn that person into an ornament as well. The Gump went first and failed to guess correctly. Next was Jack, with Bellina in his skull to hide her from the Gnome King. He too failed to find the Scarecrow and was turned into a green vase.

Jack longs for his mother though he cannot remember who she was. When he first meets Dorothy, he thinks perhaps she is his mother and his disappointed to find that she is not. Still, he asks if he may call her mother "even if it isn't so" and is immensely pleased when she consents. He is eager to please, curious, and very loving.

Abilities/Special Powers: Jack does not need to eat or sleep as he is not a person but merely sticks and a gourd.

Third-Person Sample:
Having been alive for such a short while and having seen so little of his own world, Wonderland was no more strange than Jack's own had been to him. He was wary of the sandy beaches when he walked--the only sand he'd ever seen turned others into sand as well. He greeted stones with a nervous wave but so far none had spoken to him. He checked the forest for signs of the Gump who had gone before him but had not seen so much as a couch cushion yet. He supposed the Gump was happy to be a gump again and was doing gump-like things. Really, he was more concerned about where Bellina had gone to; his mom was not going to be very happy if she came and found he'd misplaced her.

He gave his head a scratch, twig fingers making a soft sound against his hollow gourd. If he were a chicken--or a gump--where would he go? Sometimes he eyed the sand with suspicion but such thoughts were terrible and it would not do to give up hope. No, it was more likely they were both just fine and it was Jack who was lost, not them.

"Mr. Gump?" He called out, casting a glance through the trees and over the hills. "Bellina?"

Come to think of it, how did she get out of his head without him realizing it?

First-Person Sample:
Excuse me, but can I ask a favor of someone? I'm sorry if this is a strange request but you see I haven't been here very long. I heard that people don't age here but I'm not sure if that applies to pumpkins since the seasons seem to change. Would someone mind checking my head for signs of spoiling? I wouldn't want to have gone soft in the head.
