Written for the love triangle challenge at
Cult_ships One was blonde and one was brunette. Both were completely under his spell, or so he had smugly thought. If he had to pick just one he wouldn’t have been able to choose; they were so different and yet both had made themselves an important part of his life.
He had chuckled - a low guttural noise - when he remembered how innocently they had let him insinuate himself into their two very different hearts. He had often marvelled at his women and how they represented the polar opposite of each other.
Alex with her wild, course brown hair that was just like her. She was so very much like her ‘father’; strong and independent but fuck could she drive him wild with just a toss of her hair and the way she set her jaw in defiance. He loved it when she was defiant. Her brown eyes were distant, distrustful and cold; cold like brown eyes should never be. When Alex kissed him her kisses were savage, her caresses rough and impatient.
She was nothing like sweet Claire who smiled shyly as she tucked her soft, tamed blonde locks behind her ear. Her blue, blue eyes burned with the passion and intensity of white heat. Claire was at all times yielding - tame - anticipating his every whim and desire. When she kissed Ethan that first time, all tentative and tender, he had thought he would never be able to go back to Alex’s wild, untamed ways and yet he couldn’t stay away.
Both women were like a flame to which he, dopey insect that he was, would forever gravitate towards. He didn’t know it at the time but it was this behaviour that lead to his downfall.
As he lay on the jungle floor, his vital fluids spilling around him, Ethan wondered if he had got it all wrong.
There they stood above him, the smell of gun oil assaulting his nose, and they looked like completely different people; almost as if they had swapped bodies. Claire’s once warm eyes were icy cold as her pale knuckled hand dropped to her side still curled around the gun she held. He had never seen her look so ruthless and savage. Alex however, had the look of a child, her eyes warm with fear and regret at her companion’s crime. The brunette’s blind, innocent trust in the blonde - her new found ally - seemed momentarily shaken but she tried so hard to hide it. Never had Alex appeared so tame and malleable.
As Ethan closed his insect eyes for the last time he wondered how he had got it so wrong.
