He smiles at her surprise when he sings to her.
It’s a song from before he was Goodwin, before he became stranded on shit-hole island. He misses his life before; things had been simpler when he had been Brett. For one thing he could leave his job behind him at the end of the day, now his life is the job.
It’s not Brett that does the bad things; it’s Goodwin, the sickness.
He can’t let her become tainted, become anything more, or less, than brilliant, beautiful Alex. He can’t let her end up like him.
So he does what he has to do to save her from the sickness.
He kisses her once more, presses her close as they dance to his music. He doesn’t see her eyes grow wide as he twists the knife he has plunged into her but he hears the gurgling as her lungs fill with blood.
This time it wasn’t Goodwin. This time it’s Brett, saving the woman he loves.
A/N: Any ideas where the inspiration for his pre-Goodwin name comes from?
Also I hope this doesn't suck, its something that attacked me as I tried to sleep last night. I can't believe I am beginning to write again after 3 years!
