Even through closed lids Dawn could tell night had departed and day had taken its place. A lingering stretch of her arms above her head, Dawn leisurely swung her legs out from beneath the covers, sitting up as her feet touched the carpeted floor. Her eyes opened fully once she was standing and saw the rays of bright light from the sun streaming into her room through the light fabric of the curtains that covered her window. Barefoot she padded softly to the door, easing it open once she reached it and stepped out into the hallway. Dawn walked lightly down along the hall, then down the stairs, then she headed for the kitchen.
Seeing no one on her trek to the kitchen and no sounds seemed to be heard Dawn was guessing she was the first up. A glance of the clock that sat on the counter told her it was late morning. Feeling a need to have something to eat, which was confirmed by a soft rumbling in her belly, Dawn searched the cabinets of the kitchen. None of the shelves held anything edible to eat, which meant a trip to the market was in order.
Heading back upstairs Dawn made a quick change of clothes, pulling her long raven hair back, securing her hair in a ponytail. After changing Dawn fished in her purse, drawing out a few bills to use to pay for groceries she intended on purchasing. Slipping on her shoes and grabbing her house keys Dawn made the trek back downstairs and then headed out the door.
Dawn stood on the porch a moment, looking one way then the other down the street. It amazed her how everything, though newer, looked practically the same as she had remembered before the town's destruction. A light sprint down the stairs to the walk, turning left then onto the main sidewalk, Dawn headed to the neighborhood grocer which was just a couple blocks from the house.
