"You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways And kind in all His deeds. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them." -psalm 145:16-19
God is so good to repeatedly let me taste the world and bring me to repentance. I am so fallen to believe even for a moment that sin is sweeter.
i remember my thoughts before God showed me the importance of taking pleasure in Him. i tried to kill my need of satisfaction and thought abstinance from sin was pure and what God required. i was so wrong. the christian life is indulgence in pleasure, its a daily process of being filled by what is good and most desirable and fulfilling, that is the very presence of God. it is recognizing our deepest longings and seeking Gods face for our only satisfaction. it is our every desire being quenched by the goodness of God.
i become increasingly empty when i seek satisfaction with worldly attempts. and by the grace of God i am able to recognize my spiritual needs when i become physically and emotionally needy.
here is the struggle: we as a people have an intense, uncompromising lust for pleasure. we chase our pleasures and run from our pleasures and its a vicious cycle. and to make a bad situation worse, of all the earthly pleasures none can satisfy, except to know the goodness of God.
i am such a leech for pleasure. i want to lay that out. i honestly can not enjoy my day if i do not taste and see that the Lord is good. i will be a wreck and seek pleasures not found in God or i will be a liar and suppress the passionate desire to seek God.
we as believers dont always talk about our desires and pleasures. i think its pretty serious and it is nothing to be ashamed of. we all have desires and we all burn with passion to be filled and know pleasure. God gave us these longings they are created to be aimed at Him.
this has been my prayer for my own walk and i can only pray the same for any brother or sister reading:
"Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You."-psalm 40:16
i need to know the goodness of God continuously or i will become increasingly empty. God make me know joy in you, cause me to seek you often so i might know satisfaction in you.
