love and laramie

Feb 06, 2009 11:27

i am more in love than i ever thought possible. i wonder how many people feel love to this extreme. really, it's amazing. not really words to describe so posting about it is kinda dumb.

so i decided that i was on board with denver, so i should stop getting myself excited about it because i don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't happen. i figured this way, if it happens, good, if not i can deal. it is our first choice place. but i made a mistake. i realized that i wasn't quite on board with laramie, wy, so i decided to get myself more excited about it in case it happens. i figured this way i would be ok with either denver or laramie, which are our two possibilities for tenure-track (permanent) jobs. well apparently when i put my mind to something i do it well, too well. i now really really want to move to laramie, wy. like i'm totally going to be disappointed if we get our first choice and move to denver. oops.

some cool things about laramie:
-no income tax
-uw puts 11.25% of paul's income into retirement without requiring matching
-the state pays college tuition if your high school gpa is good
-close to skiing
-great for snowshoeing (which sounds fun) and cross country skiing (which i totally love)
-has an independent pharmacy and several chains
-beautiful, up in the rockies, over 7,000ft elevation
-super-affordable real estate
-only 27,000 people so its really a cool small town feel
-average commute: 10-12 min
-plenty of housing really close to campus (and whatever job i get)
-good schools
-you can rent a 4 bedroom apartment for less than $400/mo
-they have a thai restaurant

anyway, i need to stop thinking about how great laramie would be and get denver back to my #1.
