The Future

She opened up her browser and stared at her inbox. Too many messages were waiting. She typed fast, letting her friends know the truth. It was hard to say, but it had to be said.

She sighed.

Hit compose and stared at a blank screen for quite a while.

We haven’t talked in a long time. I may be following my Sire sooner than expected. Information, as I’m sure you know, is powerful but it’s also dangerous. And in this case, very dangerous.

I’m afraid I’m a bit lost in all of this. I may have joined a Covenant but I still feel very much alone. Very much apart from all of this and yet being dragged into all the same.

She paused, staring at the email and shook her head. So pointless. She closed the browser. It was going to blank space anyway.

She picked up the cat that was curling on her lap and wandered into her bedroom, leaving the door open. Her bed was still broken. She had been careful not to touch it… to waste the emotions connected to it. She sat on the floor, the cat by her side and absentmindedly ran her fingers through her fur.

What I really need is guidance and not to send emails that aren’t really going anywhere. But who do I go to?

She made a quick list in her mind and dismissed each as she did so.

What I really need is a Sire. God damn you for leaving me like this.

She thought of Asante then and almost laughed. The old Mekhet… no, he wouldn’t have any interest in this… except maybe because it might cost her her life.

And how much is that even worth? She thought vaguely and laughed.

No. I’m done with this misery. It’s time I moved on and did things for myself.

She stood up, the cat letting out a noise of protest, and went down to the basement. It was time to let go of the past and move towards her own future.
