He turned back towards the cityscape, wanting to feel angry and threatened and full of possessive rage, but could only manage to feel sad, and a little resigned.
Ugh! Now I know why Umbrey was giving me the willies. *shudders* That guy is sleazy and should be taken out to be shot! The nerve of him slobbering all over DG just to see if he can do anything about her marriage to Cain.
I see green monsters all over DG and Cain. Heeeeeeeeeeeee!
Glad to see DG finally noticing things getting complicated in her marriage. I like that she's also not chasing after the Earl because she knows how much it would Cain. Poor Cain feeling, so sad at the possibility of losing DG to someone else when he never had her in the first place
“She saved me first,” Cain said, quietly. Oh! I could just melt from that! Cain's soooooooo sweet sometimes.
Sorry, but his whole "announcing his intentions" with DG and how things could've been different if they'd met earlier to Cain is sending red flags my way.
Another thing, What is up with Az? She tells DG that she can have a number of affairs with men that she likes and even cozies up to Cain to calm him down around Umbrey. I know she wants to see DG happy, but is this really the right course of action?
You thought Az was cozying up? So not my intention.
She wanted DG to feel better about going into a more-or-less arranged marriage, so the whole "you can have lovers" thing was to assuage her fears about never having love or passion in her life. I think Az worries that DG's sacrificed her chance at romantic happiness, and she blames herself because she abdicated, forcing DG into this marriage, so any chance she sees to help ease DG's way along, she takes it. I think she'd be thrilled if DG fell in love with Cain, but right now that doesn't seem to be the case (as far as she knows, anyway).
Okay, maybe cozying wasn't the right word. How about trying to calm Cain down before he causes a political crisis by killing Umbrey. That sound better? I mean I could practically see Cain fighting to not growl at Umbrey like an overpossessive dog.
Yeah, calming him down. And Cain was definitely wanting to growl, but he was trying to appeal to his higher nature! Plus in his rational side, he's thinking that maybe marrying Umbrey would be better for DG in the long run, and if she had a chance at happiness he wouldn't want to keep her from it, because he can't really let himself think that he and DG could be happy like that. Not yet.
