So ... the holiday ... not so great
The whole mom in Mexico and my family not getting together for Christmas was depressing. I was hoping that going down South for the holidays would take my mind off it some. Didn't work out, though.
We got snowed in at my in-law's house. So we had nothing to do but watch tv and stare at each other for a week. His sister couldn't make it in from Texas, or Virginia, where ever the hell they live right now, because of the weather. I can't say I'm particularly broken up about it. My husband think I hate his sister. I don't, really. She's just one of those born agains who act ultra superior ... like their shit don't stink. That annoys me. Also, her son gets on my nerves ... in the same way my cousin Rock does.
The kids had fun and came away with some decent gifts, including one of those dual screen car dvd things that my husband's sisters and parents pitched in for. They were sad to leave, but glad to sleep in their own beds last night. We forgot to take Bear's teddy bear, a stuffed black lab puppy, and he was very glad to give it a hug last night. He's not uberly attached to it, but he did get sad about it a few times while we were down there.
My father-in-law didn't get to make it in until Sunday, the day we left. Big mess there! He's a truck driver, long haul. They were supposed to get him a load coming towards home so he could be in for the holidays. Well, they got him a load headed towards Arizona, which was supposed a load back for home. His truck broke down in AZ for a week, which gave him nothing to do but sit around and drink. They got him back on the road and weather got nasty down there. He pulled in to a weight station in New Mexico, where they found a beer in his cooler. A big nasty no-no for truck drivers. He didn't have any alcohol in his system and the beer was closed, but they held him till 5pm that day and gave him a ticket. A ticket for alcohol is an instant fire at his company. He's saying he's not going back to NM for court, which means he'll likely get a warrant out for his arrest and lose his lisence. So, if he doesn't go to jail for a few years, he'll not be able to get a job anywhere. He's the only income they're got. *sigh*
So, we're home ... I don't think I've ever been so glad to be here.
