It is pretty easy to get numbers on what percentage of a charity's budget is [spent] on programs vs. fundraising/admin. But that's not all I want to know. How do I find out what return the charity gets for each program dollar it spends? What if the charities that spend 97% of budget on programs are running a bunch of highly inefficient programs? What if the people who are wasting my money on unnecessary, glossy ads are also running kick ass programs that are helping way more people per dollar?
