(In response to a Facebook comment someone made that basically made the assertion that girls only go for “bad boy” abusive/misogynistic “alpha” assholes that treat them like shit, and well, the dude wasn’t wrong)
Sadly, you are not wrong
I theorize that it is an evolutionary hold over from some adaptive behavior of prehistoric humans where the females selected for males that demonstrated traits like aggressiveness or the propensity for violence, or that seemed more dominant/virile than other males like “he good with rock, he kill many food beasts, he maybe be good defender and protect future offspring good”
And now while those behaviors are no longer necessarily critical for survival and even undesirable today, we’re hard wired to continue to select for aggressive/dominant/violent mates and the modern bad boy often will appear to exhibit those sought after traits
...Or it’s conditioning from watching our mothers date/marry assholes and spend their lives miserable while simultaneously teaching their daughters that that is how relationships are meant to be, and so we grow up and like Freud’s Electra we go and find pricks just like our daddies were, and then procreate and perpetuate the same cycle our parents, and their parents, and their parents parents ad infinitum
Or they’re pricks because of increased testosterone/some other chemical we can detect via pheromones and we’re all just selecting potential partners based on scent and all dickhead alpha dudes have the desired gene/chemical/hormone smell present in their pheromones
Idk... I’ve been trying to unravel this irrational mystery for ages

And I don’t understand why I am attracted to scumbags like they’re fucking magnetic when I am DEFINITELY (by every measure, IQ, logic and critical thinking skills, entire breadth of knowledge regarding human and animal behavior and psychology/psychological theory) smart enough to know better... but I can’t help myself and I make the same damn mistake over and over again, same asshole, different guy
... almost like our brains don’t matter when it comes to choosing a mate/sex partner/all the relationship bullshit/ because we actually think with our vaginas instead where those subjects are concerned
