Nothin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of Hair Metal

S1E3

This part was sad in many ways, as you'll see.

Skid Row - - Dave Sabo and Rachel Bolan commented. Sebastian Bach did not. They played part so "Youth Gone Wild" and "I Remember You." I thought Sebastian was gorgeous, but Rachel always appealed to me with his face chains. He did not have them in this interview. Some chick, a DJ, said, about Sebastian, "Dudes wanted to be him, girls wanted to hang out with him... or whatever." Whatever, indeed.

Turns out Sebastian was a bit of a dick. Nuno Bettancourt of Extreme(he still looks good, BTW) told a story about Extreme being on the same plane as Skid Row. Sebastian was drinking and singing and when the flight attendant wouldn't let him have more alcohol, he went and got it himself. She told the pilot, he came out and Sebastian attacked him. The Extreme guys helped pull him off the guy, but the Skid Row guys just sat there. In these stories, they show it as a cartoon, and cartoon Rachel did have his face chains.

They played some of "More Than Words," which I loved.

They showed the infamous Chris Holmes(WASP) pool interview from The Decline of Western Civilization:The Metal Years, by Penelope Spheeris. It is literally the only thing I remember from that documentary. It is so sad, and his mom was right there.

There was a segment about Trixter and I literally do not remember them at all.

Apparently, Winger's career was ended by Beavis and Butthead. I didn't watch B&B.

Mike Tramp from White Lion spoke, but they didn't include White Lion in this. Mike does not even look like the same person.

There was a band member conflict part:

I don't remember this, either, but Bret Michaels and CC DeVille got in a fight at the VMAs. CC was under the influence, Bret announced on stage they were going to do "Nothin' But a Good Time, " but CC started playing "Talk Dirty to Me." They fought backstage, with Arsenio Hall and Cindy Crawford looking on.

They showed Kurt Loder interviewing Axl Rose. Kurt said Steven "left" GnR. Axl corrected him and said Steven was fired.

Steven was interviewed and it still makes me sad to hear him speak. He has a speech impediment from when he did the speedball and had a stroke.

And the two saddest parts:

Jani Lane's death. I remember how shocked and saddened I was when I heard this.

Robbin Crosby's death. This one was sad, too. He could not get clean, and something happened with his metabolism and he gained weight. He was always a big guy(like over 6 feet tall), but he ballooned up to 400 lbs and was unrecognizable. He got AIDS from using dirty needles because of his heroin addiction. People assumed he died of AIDS, but it was a heroin OD. Warren DiMartini was very reluctant to speak about any of it on here.

They talked about how the rise of grunge destroyed metal. Kix was recording a new record and were stopped and kicked out of the studio.

Seeing Jack Russell, with his weakened voice and a slight hand tremor was sad, too.

They mentioned Bulletboys, and even showed a clip of Marq Torien, but didn't devote any time to him. Cinderella and Bon Jovi were glaring omissions.

This did inspire me to listen to some good 80s metal, my beloved Great White("Once Bitten Twice Shy), Guns n Roses("Sweet Child of Mine"), Cinderella("Gypsy Road"), Warrant("Heaven," "Down Boys," "Sometimes She Cries"), Blue Murder("Jelly Roll"), and Motley Crue("Home Sweet Home" and "Girls Girls Girls"). It also made me miss that time so intensely. Such good times.
