Well, wow this summer is flying by. I haven't posted in a while because I haven't seen anything really interesting to post. However, I have come across a couple of pieces of music that I think are note worthy. So I am going to post them. The first one I heard them playing on Conan. Sort of a cross of Black 47, early U2, James. They are called Airborne Toxic Event. They are releasing their new album this week so have a listen and see what you think. The song that I am posting is called Sometime Around Midnight. Its their acoustic version of the song. Still very pretty. I like the harder version of it better because its more climatic.
The next song I am going to post oddly enough I heard first on a Reebok commercial. The singer is named Vashti Bunyan and the song is called "Train Song". Ironically, she recorded it in the 1960's and its sort of bluesy folk song. Think Iron and Wine only with a female singing. It also reminds me of Kingston Trio and or Peter Paul and Mary. I find it interesting because those were the musicians that I grew up listening to. My parents are huge Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul and Mary fans. They also listen to a lot of Beatles. I was probably the only 10 year old in 1985 Cedar Rapids, Iowa who knew the words to and soundtrack of the Beatles movie "Help". Tony and I were talking about how our musical taste grew from when we were children and what was the music that influenced us. Tony for instance grew up with Pink Floyd, War, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, etc...Both his father and his mother's musical taste influenced what he likes to listen to. And now today the music that he listens to and even creates is reminiscent of his musical roots. So heres to musical backgrounds and how we develop them as we grow older.
