life is a strong and brief defiance against disintegration
a hundred years of clenched teeth before we gnash the wind
magnets in each cardinal direction ignore my determination
the iron fibers may disagree while still remaining friends

my fillings compete against the force of slow imperfection
touching the cheery stone of order with raindrops of decay
my mouth opens up to show the whole world how to be a hole
and reminds the veins of sleeping trees how we all go away

i put ashes in my left shoe and some seed in my right shoe
and marched a dozen miles to find out what they had to say
the blisters thought it best to keep secrets to themselves
but i met a ring of pebbles who said all this is beautiful

the sun is setting through the pines and stars are shining
whether a lost or hungry thing is calling ceased to matter
the vibrations shook the fog from its perch above the lake
and the night began with all the forest making its promise
