1. I spent most of the weekend and Monday watching Major K like a hawk so he could be without his collar. Yesterday I had to be out for most of the day, but left the collar off anyway, which turned out to be a mistake as he'd licked it until it looked worse than it did right after the operation. Bad me. So on the collar went again and I got the fabulous benefit of a night spent with 16 pounds (yes, he's packed it on a bit) of cat clinging to me like a (miserable) limpet. Sigh. Right now he's stretched out to his full length beside me, pretending to be either dead or too sad to move, I can't quite tell which.
2. My laptop broke. Right in the middle of nothing the screen just flickered off and wouldn't come on again. I got it for Christmas, so the warranty is OK, if I could get my hands on the receipt. Which I'm pretty sure my dad never gave to me, because it's not in the folder of backup CDs and instructions. Gah.
3. Book convention this weekend! I don't know that I'll get very much out of it since I hardly read in Finnish or Swedish anymore, but it did give occasion for my new favorite critic ever (I've forgotten her name already) to write an essay comparing Moomin to Brideshead Revisited. Specifically Charles and Sebastian vs Moomin and Snufkin. Actually Sebastian and Snufkin have very little in common (Sebastian should be so lucky), it's about Moomin being pretty much exactly like Charles and how they react to the EXCITEMENT of this other, completely alien character.
There was also a bit of queer theory, but that is not exactly news. When I was about ten, one of my Finnish-speaking friends wouldn't believe Too-Ticky was a she until I showed him my Swedish-language books (Finnish doesn't have gender-specific pronouns).
(That said, I was embarrassingly old when I realized Tove Jansson was gay.)
4. I'm behind on every show ever except Pushing Daisies, so I only just caught up with the last episode of Mad Men. What the everloving fuck, show?
cat health woes,
the never-ending e-collar saga,
currently experiencing technical problem,
