this is very random, but i like reading the works of black people.
im only mildly familiar with hughes and wright, but I feel they write similarly, and that is, simply. 
there is something about the plight of negroes, or I suppose writing in the time of plight in general, that expunges the frivolity i cannot stand from the finished product.
i do like twain because he writes with purpose, but i despise hawthorne because he forgets the message and becomes so immersed in the language.  language is a beautiful thing, as hughes could certainly tell you, but if it allows the purpose to be lost on you, then it is a silly, needless thing.
anyway, i want to research and read the harlem renaissance this summer.
