Michael and I had a great bike ride on Madison's Capital City Trail Saturday with
bruinwi , notable as the first longer ride that Michael has done with his two new knees. He held up just fine in spite of a few hills. Here's Michael on the trail with
bruinwi (we'd stopped to watch some deer in the field below):

We seemed to be heading into the wind no matter which way we turned, so I was glad I had my fairing:
Afterwards Michael and I headed over to the Trek store to test drive their brand new electric assist bike, the Ride+:
The motor is built right into the rear hub. That's the battery pack under the rear rack behind the seat. Here's Michael getting "flight instructions" from a Trek employee:
He came back from his test ride grinning ear to ear:
so even though I'm snooty about upright bikes, I had to give it a try myself. It is absolutely insanely fun to ride, and I came back with the same silly grin. It only assists when you're pedaling, but it amplifies each and every stroke so much that you feel like you're just along for the ride. Don't even ask about the price. I'd only tell you if you promised me you were sitting down.
