well, I feel like I may as well post an entry to celebrate a bit.
The past five days were basically academic hell, an exposé, an essay, two problem sets due on Thursday and Friday, then a huge semester long project which I forgot about, a take home French lit exam, and a final all today. I haven't slept in a while, but I drank so much coffee that now that I can, I can't, and instead am luxuriating in the fact that I don't have to do anything until my final on Thursday. After that I have another on Saturday, then the following Thursday. On Friday, my old friend Mike Eng is coming. I don't know if any of you know/remember who he is (James?), but I'm quite excited to see him... I can't recall the last time we saw each other, maybe sometime in 2002?
Last night I received a job offer from a vocational college in Qingdao, Shandong province. For those who don't know, Qingdao was once colonized by the Germans and as a result brews the most popular beer in Asia. It's also called by (one guy I know?) the San Francisco of China. The area is also home to the Shao ancestors and Confucius. I'm currently discussing the details of the contract with the employer, and I think I'll take it. I'll be making 4800 RMB ($800) a month and teaching at least 18 hours a week with apartment rent included.
