So yeah, I skipped Reel Club and went to the showing of a David Gilmour concert at the theater last night. I was expecting the place to be PACKED if the amount of Darkside of the Moon shirts I see around school was any indication of a Pink Floyd fandom at school. However, alot of these kids are posers or just wear the shirts for fashion I guess, as they couldn't name a Floyd band member or an album other than DSotM if their life depended on it. Obviously none of these self-declared "fans" know who the fuck David Gilmour is. I don't mean for this to sound elitist, I'm just sick of seeing a band I pretty much worship become the subject of a teenage fad and fashion craze.
What bothered me a bit was that it cost me $12-fucking-.50 to get in. WTF?? The concert wasn't live nor was it that long (about 90 minutes).
Anyway, there were about 15 people in the entire screening room, so I had my choice for seating at least. The film opened with Dave performing/recording the first track on his latest solo album on his houseboat recording studio (with David Crosby, no less) and then talking about the album and what not. Then it cut to a small concert he did in London in a small indoor concert hall. He performed a few songs from the new album and then did some stripped-down versions of classic Floyd songs. (Rick Wright was there too, so hey, it was half of Pink Floyd) The show ended with Comfortably Numb (my favorite song EVAR) so I was happy.
Because I'm a fantard, I think it was worth it, just barely. I think if anyone else went with me, they'd be kinda disappointed.
