"All that is human must retrograde if it does not advance."
- Edward Gibbon
Today, I spent about 2 hours copy editing the wrong files. Damn my lack of perceptness. I had a chuckle with my co-workers about it, but I feel like a giant dork.

Although I am not particularly in love with romantic comedies, I was asked which ones were my favorite. After contemplation, I came up with a list, albeit a small one. And from that list, I was curious if they passed a certain feminism consideration. Here is my results.
Bechdel Test*
Favorite romances (considered so by me) that would pass the Bechdel test:
"Practical Magic," starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman
"10 Things I Hate About You," starring Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Julia Stiles
"Love Actually" (Although just barely fits the qualifications, it's possible it doesn't pass at all)
"Just Go With It," starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anistan
"Enchanted," starring Amy Adams
"Pretty Woman," starring Richard Gere, Julia Roberts
"13 Going on 30," starring Jennifer Garner
*The Bechdel test (
www.bechdeltest.com) is a system of qualifications to note the amazing lack of female presence and/or their interaction in most films. The test is not meant to be overly intensive. It can get pretty complicated. The test is mainly to be fun.
Qualifications for the Bechdel test are 1) There are two women in the film; 2) Those two women talk to each other; and 3) Their conversation is not about men or relationships.
It's interesting how many movies do no possess all three, or two or even one of these.
My list goes on to mention Pride and Predjudice (1995) but I'm not sure it passes. I would have to go back and watch it. Plus it is a mini-series, not a movie.
Womance/Hoe-mance* films I like that pass
Easy A**
Clueless
John Tucker Must Die
The House Bunny
Bridesmaids
Heathers
The Craft (I actually am not sure I liked this film; it's listed, but I think I may have hated it)
*Womance/Hoe-mance are pretty much the sister to the Bromance as they are a film about the friendships between women rather than a budding romance between a woman and a man.
** Although listed as a womance, I really consider this neither a romance or a womance, now that I think about it.
