"We are born charming, fresh and spontaneous and must be civilized before we are fit to participate in society."
- Judith MartinAwkward exchanges:
A co-worker stopped me today on my way to my desk. He's one of those flirtatious type of guys who always has a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye when he talks to you. It's semi-creepy. He reminds a little of the "ass-to-ass" guy from "Requiem for a Dream."
And he says to me as I pass on my way to my desk, "Verona."
"What," I say, thinking did he just call me Verona?
He motions to the cup of Starbucks coffee in my hand. "Verona." He says it again as if it has a particular meaning to me.
"Americano." I say in hopes that he is playing a guessing game with the type of coffee I drink.
"Oh," he says. "I figured Verona because you're so bold."
Whoa. Haha... Just going to continue to my desk.
