After about 2 years of being a one-cat household,
fizzygeek and I decided it was
time to adopt another cat. We've looked at several shelters, met a host of available cats, and
deliberated endlessly. We went down to
Siamese Rescue, where I used to volunteer
to meet a gorgeous cat named Jet Li. However, Jet Li just didn't click with us in person. I
was rather taken with an older cat called Sammy, who reminded me of a wonderful laid-back
cat I grew up with. We also met a bunch of other cats, including Jacques and Stuart, who had
just arrived and were too nervous to display their real personalities.
Then
fizzygeek found another nice looking cat on the website and we went down
to meet him and perhaps bring him home. Walker sure was a gorgeous Balinese with the
most amazing soft fur. But he seemed to both of us to be too excitable and flighty to be a
good companion for Callie. I'm not worried about him finding a home though. We also
spent a good bit of time playing with Sammy and Stuart, who both seemed like nice playful
mellow cats. Unfortunately, we couldn't decide which was a better bet! So we headed back
home empty-handed, promising to make a decision and email them the next day.
We stopped on the way home at
El Agave,
an excellent Mexican restaurant we'd eaten at before. As always, there was a line to get in,
and as always, the food was excellent. Sitting there next to the Christmas tree, eating top
notch mole, we realized we'd both decided Sammy would be a good match.
So we sent the email, worked our way through the adoption paperwork, and tried to figure
out when we could bring him home. After much juggling of schedules, emails, and phone
calls, it looks like I'll be able to head down tomorrow and pick him up.
