T-Shirt Quilt Tutorial, Part I

Using his blue jeans as sashing - what a creative idea! Since jeans are kind of stiff anyway, I don't think you need to worry about interfacing making the t-shirts too stiff - it'll probably be good that the two fabrics will be similar in thickness. I obviously haven't finished yet, but I think if you pick the right interfacing you can get a good compromise between stability and flexibility.

Just make sure that your sewing machine can handle the jeans material (if that's how you'll be doing the sewing - which I do recommend since sewing through jeans by hand is tough!)

I intend to mention it in my next installment of the tutorial, but I really think interfacing is important if you want a neat and tidy-looking quilt. I know it's tempting not to use interfacing since it really does take a lot of time, but I think it's totally worth the extra time to create a high-quality product that I can be proud of and use for years. Interfacing makes it easier to work with the t-shirts and keeps them from being stretchy whiles sewing, and also gives the thread something more substantial to hold on to.
