(no subject)

Oh, but I’m tired! The events of this evening are enough to ensure my sound repose, only I fear I shall become neglectful of my journal if I do not write in it regularly. Let me be brief, then, and describe the evening in the simplest terms.

This room - the one Lucy and I have shared for over a month now - contains a private passage connecting it to the stables. I chanced upon it while bringing Hephaestus a carrot, accompanied by Mr. Holmes (who, I am very thankful to report, is not vexed with me after all, and was merely concerned for my safety) and the Count (the poor dear sir is quite put out by the influx of garlic in the parlour; I believe even the stables seemed a more welcomed retreat). We none of us hesitated to explore it, noting along the way the seemingly pristine condition of the passage. It is, much unlike the others, quite well-kept. It has led us to wonder if it has not been used recently. But why would there be a passage connecting our room to the stables? Who inhabited the room before Lucy and I? I cannot help but wonder. There does seem to be something so very strange about it, and we believe there may be a link to the conservatory.

Still, momentous as it may be to discover a passage in one’s room, it was not by far the greatest triumph. Certainly that was the mutual amicability between us all. I did not fail to notice how very well the three of us work together during such investigations, nor do I believe either gentleman failed to notice. There was none of the tension or suspicion that has grieved me many a time in the parlour. In fact, I would venture so far as to say I believe such things have been laid to rest, finally. Not only was the exploring party highly successful, but the breach of trust seems to be healed at last, which brings me no end of joy. That the two finest, keenest minds I have ever had the privilege to know would be reconciled with each other is indeed a most welcome change. I can only hope now that our shared amiability continues, for with so many surprises unveiled, I feel the enigma itself is far from unraveled.
