The Victorian Party

Jun 14, 2010 11:38

Wow! What an amazing weekend I had!

Saturday was the first Victorian Party at our new house. blackcat452 arrived early to help me set up, and I didn't stop moving for the next 11 hours when our last guest departed at 10pm.

Everyone looked so wonderful and brought such yummy food (hand made Victorian tea sandwiches, pasta salad, cookies, veggie trays and more) and delicious drinks (mystic mauve mimosas and strawberry champagne punch to name a couple!).

Our neighbors kindly loaned us their pole tent for those that wanted to sit on the lawn and watch the sporting games (croquet and boccie ball, but it was too hot for bad minton).

The biggest surprise came when Beth arrived. See, she had me choose the date of the Victorian Party back in October because she said Josie, who is living in Germany due to her husband's military deployment, wanted to arrange to come. For 8 months I thought Josie was coming to my party. When Beth arrived, it wasn't Josie who was walking toward me, but Gina, my dear friend from Idaho who I missed terribly. It was all a trick they planned to surprise me!! I screamed, I cried, I was in shock and awe! There are pictures of this moment, but I don't have them yet. I tear up every time I think of it...like now.

I had set up a few pieces of my Vintage clothing collection in my sewing room for display, and isabelladangelo brought an amazing vintage clothing collection to share for show 'n tell.

At one point I did get a bit faint from heat stroke, but my guests quickly came to my aid and I was better in no time. It helped to have a real nurse on hand (thanks, Beth!). It was recommended I remove my half wig and hair pieces so that more heat could escape and that seemed to keep me cooler the rest of the day. It also helps to eat at some point.

Herr Doctor and his beautiful 'nurse' set up a clinic in order to examine the guests and prescribe 'elixirs' (bourbon based deliciousness). That was too fun! I forget what I was diagnosed with, but I believe ladistrange has a video of my examination, so we'll soon see!

Jason played drunken bbq griller and general mad man all day. He looked so great in his chef's apron, didn't he?

Late in the day our neighbor came over upon my invitation to have some refreshment, and she was very amused by all of us. Especially Patrick Rodgers! He is quite the expert at LARPing, so he never broke his "Deputy Marshal of the South West" character all day for even a second.

A big thank you to those that were able to stay late and help us to clean up.

So, yes...photos! I have some up already, and hope that more come in soon. Feel free to tag yourselves!
