I have always been intriguied by the awesome force of nature, especially her storms. Living on a very large lake I have born witness to many devastating storms, hurricanes, thunder and lightening, high winds and of course deep blizzards. In my teen years I spent alot of time researching weather patterns and learning how these storms moved so that I could follow them. I admit most of my tracking skill (and I do have a nack for it) comes from mainly instinct, but I am not completely unknowledgable. That is why I had pretty much given up seeing a tornado while living in this region. Water spouts (tornadoes on the lake) are very rare though I've seen a few, and I've only heard of one or two actual twisters touching down here in my lifetime, and never seen one, until now.
On my way home some show-related shopping and laundry a huge storm cell blanketed the region and I knew it would be big. I dashed home to check the radar on the weather channel website and headed for the weirs thinking I would get the most action there. Halfway there though I noticed the storm swinging south, and turned myself around.
Looking for a place to view the lightening and set up for a few shots I headed to a ridge that overlooks like 90% of the lakes region, not far away from the hill the resort steel hill sits on. After only a few moments I was greatly rewarded as I peered across the misty valley to perch that is the resort. I thought I first I had imagined it, but took some images anyway, and I found an article that confirmed what I thought I saw! A funnel cloud.
Thats right, A funnel that touched down in 5 or 6 different locations, once on lake winnepesaukee, and several times on steel hill.
For any of you that were at the party hosted by dan and amber at steel hill, this took place very near there.
yahoo!!!
I will be posting the pics on my website when I get a chance, for now,  Click Here to read the paper article. COOL
