Clearly, I only maintain a LiveJournal so I can keep up with my friends' lives, and not to help them keep up with mine; I generally don't think there's too much to say. But here's a brief outline. The good news is that I am in my last semester of law school, that my third year paper is almost done, that I put the ethics exam behind me, that last week was spring break and I was able to get lots of sleep, and that I had an absolutely awesome time doing the law school parody for the third year in a row. It's a student-written musical send-up of the law school, professors, and generally pop culture, with songs and choreographed dances and everything (we take popular songs and rewrite the lyrics. And it's not copyright infringement, it's fair use. So there).
And the bad news: while participating in said musical, I injured myself. It was actually in the middle of a performance; I was trying to execute this twisty leap thing that I'd done dozens of times in practice with no problem, and somehow as I landed with all my weight on my right leg, my leg must have also been twisted...and there was the dreaded pop. After crawling offstage behind some other people and being passed around by the male cast members like a football, depending on who had to get on stage ASAP, I got a ride to the hospital. Later, MRIs confirmed that I had succeeded in re-tearing the ligament in my right knee that was torn in college when I got hit by a car. That was junior year, and I had to get the ligament re-created from part of my hamstring, and it hurt, and there was lots of physical therapy, and just generally ouch. Seriously, people, if I have to be injured, why can't I just have a glorious, or at least normal, story involving soccer or basketball? This injury is most common in hardcore athletes, not usually girls on stage in glittery dresses (in my defense, it was a parody of Total Eclipse of the Heart, so the soloist dancers had these hilariously awful super-sparkly dresses that looked like bad 80's prom dresses and left trails of glitter wherever we walked). Astoundingly enough, the injury this time is even worse than the first, because besides the ligament, I also tore some of the cartilage in my knee. So for those of you keeping track, that means I did a better job of injuring myself than a half ton vehicle. That's talent.
I'm postponing surgery until after my last exam in early May. Hopefully I won't be limping too badly when I walk across the stage to get my diploma (thank God), and this time around I'm asking for Vicodin. Because after watching House these past few years, I'm really damn curious. The other bad news is that the husband and I are going to have to nix our plans for a two week belated honeymoon in Spain and Paris. We had the tickets and everything; we're now going to have to reschedule.
And that's that. Oh, and on a less personal note: I was able to catch a few movies over spring break. I highly, highly recommend The Namesake; though the book is always better, this is a really spirited adaptation that keeps the same flavor of the book. It totally strikes a nerve for anyone who comes from an immigrant family. And Kal Penn is hot. Also saw Zodiac. I've been trying to decide for years now whether I think Jake Gyllenhal is cute or not, and I had plenty of time to continue to muse in this movie, as it's 2hrs 40 mins. If they had cut 20 minutes, it would have really been a great movie, but I think I soured on it a little towards the end. Robert Downey Jr. is still sexy and charming; totally the highlight of the movie for me (although the acting was great in general).
Hope everyone's doing well!
